David Ambarzumjan (b. 1999 in Wolgast, Germany) is a painter based in Berlin. Working primarily in oil, he combines detailed scenes with bold, heavily textured brushstrokes that reveal another time.
His series Brushstrokes in Time explores how landscapes are transformed by natural forces, human intervention and the passage of time. Within each painting, different moments coexist in a single composition, moving between prehistoric environments, landscapes reshaped by human presence and imagined futures in which nature reclaims the structures left behind.
The brushstroke functions both as part of the depicted landscape and as a physical interruption of it. Built up in thick layers of paint, its ridges and edges respond to changing light, shifting the work between painted illusion and sculptural presence.
As the series has developed, Ambarzumjan has expanded the scale and material weight of the brushstroke, using its movement and organic textures to explore cyclical relationships between creation, destruction and renewal.
Ambarzumjan’s paintings have been exhibited internationally and are held in private collections worldwide. Works from his Miniature Collection are released periodically through public online auctions.
